MMU specail collections online store.

This unit is based on creating something that would fit into the mmu originals online shop so I sat and studied the online shop and thought about textile things that I could create to put into it. Things that came to mind were pillows lampshades etc to fit in with interior design theme that I try to continue through out my work. I wanted to get feed back from other people to see what they thought. Below are few examples of the feed back I received.

Katie Swaffield " Have you thought about little material trinket boxes I'm not sure how you can make them out of material but that's up to you to figure out."

Lou Gifford " I've made felt jewllery before have you thought about making something along those lines perhaps broaches or something although there are some already on the store."

Melloney Harvey " Maybe jewellery boxes would be a nice idea you often see things like that in art gallery and museum gift shops. Which the university originals store reminds me a lot of."

I really liked the idea creating textile jewellery boxes and it would fit in with other aspects of the online store as there is already a lot of jewellery on the site. I now want to go onto looking at other designers that have worked in a similar area to this aiming to create a similar outcomes, I also want to look further at the artist work who already have their work In the mmu originals store.

Development of drawings

After doing my original primary drawings I needed to go back and develop them further I normally do this through collage so I took aspects that I liked of my previous drawings and had a go at creating different patterns using them. The aspect that really stood out for me in my previous drawings is the butterflies moths and spiders.

The first two images are actually related in the first image where the spiders legs over lapped I thought it made a interesting pattern so I used that to create the image below. The white is actually the spiders leg a coloured in what would of been the negative area in the first image. I have used the process of using the negative area before in previous work I always find it a interesting method as it distorts what it is your actually seeing creating a much more interesting image.

Jewellery box ideas.

I have made material boxes in the past. I have picked out three of my previous boxes below to demonstrate. What is I am wanting is something a little more abstract for this unit. I feel to go along with my kaleidoscope idea I want an abstract shape because when you look through a kaleidoscope it manipulates what it is your actually seeing. I feel with a more abstract shape it would have the same effect. In the past when making material boxes I would have a cardboard frame with wadding then material with the material just glued to the cardboard. I have learned from previous experience that this doesn't make the boxes long lasting so I learn't a new technique which I will apply to it this time called lacing. This is demonstrated below.

I feel to go along with my kaleidoscope idea I want an abstract shape looking at the first image below I could take the slanted rectangular shape to make a sort zig zag shaped box instead.

Jacky Tsai.

Jacky tsai is a pop artist caught between two world of the western pop art and the eastern traditional themes he combines the two so beautifully I cant seem to take my eyes away. I never knew this but Jacky was behind the British designers Alexander Mcqueens floral skulls. But what I'm most interested in is his work involving bright and flamboyant colours, this is because I am always being told to be more brave with my colour choices so I'm trying hard to take this into consideration. One image in particular caught my attention called 'Kaleidoscope'. I love how the pattern repeats it's self and the fact that its actually made up of a person leaping. I want to take this idea into my own practice using the kaleidoscope idea and look into image of other kaleidoscope work.
