Evaluation / Final Piece

 I can't lie that I was a little disheartened when I found out that we were creating a hot water bottle cover. But after taking on board the project and fully emerging myself in the topic I couldn't get enough. I kept my final piece simple in the design of the hot water bottle and went a little crazy on the design. What was very useful was the group crits that we continuously had it allowed the whole of our class to give constructive criticism to help develop our work further. It was in these sessions that I learned I hadn't developed a strong enough colour pallet half way through our project and quickly made changes to amend that. I really enjoyed Visiting the exhibitions and archives but for me my main source of inspiration came from learning all about "kantha" and look at images from protests from PETA.

 My favorite aspect has got to be the back at first I wanted to have them just joined as the backing but it wouldn't have been practical, you would be able to see the actual hot water bottle. I think the design is busy and fun which is what fairground atmospheres are like. I would say that it would appeal to women rather than men which wasn't what I first intended. I was hoping that it would appeal to both genders but now looking at the colour scheme i feel it is much more feminine. Id hope it would appeal to all ages as in my mind children would find it attractive and cosey and I think older generation can appreciate all of the hand work that has gone into it as well as the imagery on the front. If I could I change it I would have the front as the back and the back as the front as I feel the back is the focal point. I'd also change the material used I would have chosen something with more strech. Although I used 100% cotton because it's the best for tie dye and doesn't lose its shape or let the colour run. Overall I am pleased with My final piece and I know that I will defiantly be using it!

Suffolf Puffs samples

After trying out suffolk puffs for the first time I wanted to carry on and try out different samples with them I want the back of my hot water bottle to be covered in the puffs. I think they would add another dimention to the cover, because I wanted to keep the actual shape of the cover simple It makes it that bit more exciting as well. The other reason I wanted to use them with the tie dye material is because that it would distort the pattern on the material. So I created sample just using the suffolks puffs but with different backings to figure out what I think would work best.

The image below is defiantly my favorite I just like the way that the puffs blend into the background the threads I've just here are what I want to use for the front of my cover. I chose these colours cause I wanted to bring a vibrant fun aspect into my work to reflect the fun had at fairgrounds. 

Samples

I carried on sampling ideas above is a quick sample of Suffolk puffs, I then went on to sample ideas from my sketch book joined with my tie dye work. I wanted to try out different ideas and after making the simple suffolk puffs sample I then wanted to work with them as I just love the texture and depth that it adds.
